Golden toes!

Actually, if I was to be completely accurate the title should read, ‘Old Brass toes’, but it really doesn’t have the same ring to it!

These are my favourite shoes.  A pair of Rollie Nation lace up derby’s. They are as comfy as hell, designed by an Australian company and they are leopard print.  What’s not to love?

The thing is, I have perhaps loved them too much.  They are looking a little tired.  The ‘pony hair’ and pattern is starting to rub away, particularly on my right foot.  Anyone would think I was playing a regular game of footy.  I can assure you, I am not.

I am no stranger to pimping my shoes, the last time I did it was about 2 years ago and it became one of my first blog posts.

The original inspiration for the revamp came from an excellent book called Adorn by Kit Lee and Shini Park.  It’s a cute and easy DIY book about how to update your clothes and accessories.

This is my version, be prepared, it’s quick and easy…

Step 1: Mask off the area you want to paint.  Make sure it’s securely stuck down to avoid any leakage.

Step 2: Choose your paint. Leather paint is ideal. I found this product, Lumiere by Jacquard and it comes in lots of fabulous colours.  I chose Old Brass 548.  This product is available online but I found this at my local Eckersley’s Art Shop.

Step 3: Slap it on.  This photo shows my first coat of paint.  I ended up painting 3 coats.

Step 4: Leave it to dry overnight and then remove the tape. Voila!

They aren’t perfect (there was a bit of leakage), but they are damn fine in my opinion.  I think some new laces would finish the job perfectly.

Now, time to shine….
